WHAT A GUY. I may be a poli science major but I felt dr lichtman was a great teacher. He has 3 tests overall(all essays) and gives out 2 terms paper with can really help your grade if you're not a good test taker. The thing thats great about this guy is how effective he is with the course material. Hes really passionate and knows a lot about what he's talking about. As long as you participate, take good notes, and go to class, you'll get at least a B. So...TAKE HIM!!!!!

Lichtman is a great guy. If you fail you're stupid because he gives you 1,000 chances to do well. There is up to 3% worth of extra credit. If you don't do well on the optional essay it just flat out doesn't count. He makes politics fun and I hate politics. Uses tons of court cases and scenarios that students can relate to which makes tough and confusing topics easier. His exams are easy. He gives you 10 terms and you get 5 terms on your exam and you only answer 3 of them in essay form. If you study and go to class you will do fine!

A lot of reading is "required" but so is a lot of note taking. He lectures for at least 1hr straight and you can fill a notebook easily in a semester. However, tests are take home and are all writing intensive. Be a good writer and you shall succeed. Very enjoyable class though, and learned more in this class than any other. I recommend him any day, his stories are ridiculous. We did a mach trial this past year for the NIXON trials, and that was a lot of fun, but required a lot of work to be done. Come to class prepared with an opinion and reasons to back it up. It makes for a better class when there's arguments.

Professor Lichtman is a great professor! He keeps the class entertained for the most part. All the tests are short essay which aren't too bad, just make sure you know your material! My suggestions would be to take a laptop and type up the notes, sometimes he goes at a fast pace and you can get lost if you're not familiar with the material. Also, if you have one and he allows you too, record his lectures. It will help to go back around test time to remember what he said.

Dr. Lichtman is flat out awesome. I loved going to his classes. He grades really hard though, but his classes are very enjoyable. You have 3 exams, an essay, an optional essay and many extra credit opportunities. He does some awesome impressions, Clinton and Bush were my favorites. He is a very entertaining professor. If you take his class you will never look at the clock, he is awesome at teaching! Take him!

Subject: Great Prof.  (Oct 21 2009, 06:09PM)

Professor Lichtman made this class much more interesting than I'd imagined it would be. He explains everything pretty thoroughly, and ties it all together pretty well, which comes in handy come test time. He makes a lot of jokes (some of which are corny, granted, but the effort is there), and is a generally friendly sort. If you make the effort, he is more than happy to do what he can for you. Although he assigns a lot of readings, most of them are helpful for understanding the test terms. The tests take some studying for, but he grades them pretty fairly and is very willing to help you out if you don't understand what he's looking for. All in all a pretty fair prof. and an effective teacher.

Lichtman is a great professor. There were no exams, just a few papers which weren't that bad. The final exam was a take home paper that we had to do applying what we learned throughout the semester. For class he lectures the entire time but provides pictures and does impersonations. I enjoyed it and learned a lot about the supreme court.

This guy is truly amazing. He completely understands when someone is sick. But if you do miss his class you miss a lot out of the lectures. The lectures are actually very entertaining. I hate politics and he actually got me interested in them as much as I could be. He is a really funny guy, and the class is completely worth it!

Professor Lichtman is by far one of the best professors I've had at Ship. He doesn't believe in "treating students like kids" and an attendance policy, but if you miss a class you do miss a lot of lecture. His lectures are actually very entertaining. He does a great Clinton impression (along with many others) and likes to insert random movie quotes or hilarious one-liners in when he can. The exams are all essay, but if you know the terms on the essay you'll do fine. There is one essay with a rewrite if you're unhappy with your grade, and one optional essay to help your grade. There is tons of extra credit opportunities, too. He is always available via Email and does as much as he can to help out and work with his students. He is just a great professor.

Lichtman is an amazing teacher, who knows his stuff. He is extremely funny and a total entertainer, so classes never ever drag on. His assignments are all very straight forward, and he is down to business. I wouldn't say he's an easy-teacher, but he does give you at least three opps for extra credit. He's probably my favorite professor this year.

Super cool prof. Sometimes he tries too hard to be funny but its still funny watching him make a fool of himself. The class overall is not that hard as long as you pay attention and you really don't have to do the readings that he gives you... he also gives many extra credit attempts and he announces everything before its due or you have a test so you dont need to follow the syllabus. Its a lecture but he outlines all the notes and projects onto a screen. One of my fav. profs.

Ok the material he teaches is kinda dry, but he is soo funny and enthusiastic. Its obvious he loves his job and he loves teaching it. Theres 4 to 5 grades in his class, 5th being optional. It is as follows: 1 paper, 2 tests, just write what you know about the terms(HE GIVES U THE TERMS PRIOR TO THE TEST) and a final which is just like the 2 tests, and he gives you the terms. The optional assignment is an essay. This guy is amazing. He is so funny, he stands on chairs and screams things to make a point, he shouts out the door. This class I probably learned the most from BECAUSE HE KEEPS IT INTERESTING. In the end TAKE HIS CLASS (this is coming from somone who got LOWER then a 3.0 in highschool)

Dr. Lichtman is not only a very good teacher, but he keeps the class interesting with his sense of humor! He does impressions of Bill Clinton and others that are actually really good! But on a serious note, he explains things well and is very knowledgeable in his field. You can't go wrong taking him, just make sure to GO TO CLASS!!!! All his tests are based on the notes, so its very important that you go to class and take good notes! Overall, a great teacher!

Business: 2 3-5 page Opinion Reaction Papers, 2 Six-Term 1-page Tests, and a 1 week final consisting of 3-5 page Opinion Reaction Papers and a Six-Term 1-page Test. Personality: He is a former lawyer from Boston, so he knows his stuff. Plus, he was the head of the Comedy Committee at Boston University so he's hilarious! Conclusion: Easiest and funniest professor in the Poly Sci Dpt. That's right, better than Dagnes!

Im a history major, but government was never my favorite class, and so I was a little wary when I found out that I had been scheduled for a government class. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Dr. Lichtman was really funny and always made the class enjoyable, and paired with the fact that he knew his stuff, it was a great class. Id recommend him.

Lichtman is a great professor. His classes are all lecture, but not the type of lectures that come straight from a book -- it's quite obvious he knows his stuff. He was very good at making the lectures interesting, especially by encouraging class participation and using examples everyone could relate to. There were a few papers to write, but he lets you rewrite the first one if you are not satisfied with your grade. His exams are short answers of terms which he gives a study guide for about a week before the exam. The final exam was take home and involved short answer terms and 3 short essays. I got a lot out of the class and would definitely take him again.

There is a lot of lecture and note taking, most of any class I had thus far. He did make it interesting, but the information was not a walk in the park. There is also a lot of writing. And it might be a good idea to read the readings too, however, I didn't and pulled off a B+.

I didn't really learn that much from him, except that hes a crazy lunatic who isn't all that funny. His teaching style is totally barbaric and weird. His tests are really long paragraphs about terms that he had given us in class. And it's impossible for you to get a 100 on his tests because it would mean that you know more than he does. I didn't learn much from his class except that hes an arrogant a-hole who loves himself.

As a gen ed. this class isn't the worst thing in the world. I think most people would agree that government and politics is not a class that most people really want to take. Professor Lichtman is very good at making a boring subject interesting. There aren't many grades for this class. You have two tests, one essay, one optional essay, and a take home final. Professor Lichtman also gives many opportunities for extra credit. There is one thing that I can't stress enough for this class though; READ THE READINGS. I never do the readings for a class. I'm usually very good at pulling an A without doing the readings. You will NOT be able to do that in this class. The notes that he gives you in class are the bare minimum of what you need to know. The tests seem like they should be really easy. He gives you 10 terms about a week before the test. 6 of these terms will be on the test and you only have to do 5 of them. All you have to do is write down everything you know about them. I thought this would be pretty easy but it's not. The things that he expects you to put down are things that you should have learned from the readings. He's a pretty tough grader when it comes to grading the tests and you have to really "dazzle" him to get an A. Overall, he's not a bad teacher. If you want to have fun in a class then you should take him, if you want an easy class where you don't have to put in any effort you might want to find somebody else.

Dr. Lichtman is an intelligent guy who knows his subject, but it felt like he liked to listen to himself talk more than he wanted us to learn sometimes. Overall the class wasn't that bad and I did learn about how government works a lot more than I knew. There were a couple of papers and exams which weren't that bad, and the reading was a little much but nothing to cry about. I liked Dr. Lichtman but at times felt like he was long-winded (you will never get out early), and he would keep us late with his lectures which would make me late for my next class and that was NOT good.
