Dr. Ruud is a very nice woman, always willing to help you out or just talk. She has a strong interest in her students and is always looking for our input on things. Her class is not hard, you just cannot fall behind.. thats the only reason I got a C, is because I fell behind, but it's really not hard at all. Definitely fair, you have to study for the tests, but if you do study, you will do well because her tests are very straight forward. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Ruud.

Professor Ruud is a wonderful professor. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and she did a great job of keeping it interesting. Grading was very fair and you can really see that she cares a lot about her students. I will say that there was a lot of reading for this class. But if you come prepared and are ready to participate, the class should be a breeze. I am definitely going to miss my Business and Society class...

I took this class before with a different professor and I got an F. When I took it with Professor Ruud I got an A. ...and trust me, my "study habits" didn't change at all. She just makes it more interesting and applies it to what we actually need to know in the world, not everything in the book. She does a good overview at the end of each class with example test questions which really help out. The class before the exam we had a test review which is another good refresher for what information you need to look over again and what you know pretty well already. She really feeds on class participation and it actually makes it more fun when people are involved and adding in their input or defense on a case. There are always options for extra credit and she is very flexible and understanding when youre struggling or need help. There are three exams which she curves based off the highest test grade, two current event papers which are only one page, and the rest she makes up as we go. We watched the Enron movie and wrote a 1-2 page paper, I watched "the Santa Clause" and wrote a one page paper on the legal aspects for extra credit, and we had guest speakers and learned our rights as students on the appeal system we have here at Ship. She's extremely easy to get a hold of by phone or email and response time is almost immediate with emails. With the information of this class and professor Ruud asking if I've ever considered law school at first I laughed but by the end it is seriously a possible option that I'm considering. I would HIGHLY recommend you take her, she is amazing!

First of all let me point out if you like missing classes and hate reading your text books do not take her. But if you can discipline yourself to read / skim over a chapter before every class this professor is extremely easy. A few kids were having trouble in her class because they were not reading the book. If you read the book and come to class it is a really easy class. She curves the exams like crazy. She always took the 2nd highest grade and make it = 100% for example out of 150 points 100% was 135 out of 150. And her review sessions, she basically gives you every question on the exam so take lots of notes.

Professor Ruud was a great teacher. I really liked that she had President Ruud come and talk to the class. I also enjoyed that she let the class teach 2 chapters and in exchange for that she didn't put them on the exam. Her exams are difficult but she really wants everyone to do well. There is a review class before the tests and she gives out a study guide with terms. Class Participation counts but it is not difficult to participate because she frequently asks the students to read from the power point slides that she teaches off of. Along with her tests she also offers extra credit and at least 2 written assignments. Another way to get points for your class participation is to do current events for class. I would take her again in a heart beat. I didn't put hardly any effort into studying and I didn't do any extra credit but I did so-so in the class. I recommend you take her. (Plus she is much much better than Weigle.)

When you first look at the syllabus at the beginning of the year you are like "Oh my gosh! This class is going to stink!" There's two papers that have to be turned in and three exams. There is also random class participation stuff she makes you do at will. None of that stuff is in the syllabus. She randomly thinks of it during class and then assigns a point value. If you don't have a problem reading a chapter a class, take her. She's probably more interesting then some of the other B&S professors because she brings in speakers. She gives you lots of opportunities to get points and curved both exams by about 20 points. (The exams are pretty much the textbook) She's not always clear with what's required, but she's fair and like I said, will give you plenty of chances to get points. I would definitely recommend her over the other profs.
