Subject: Best Professor Ever!  (Nov 27 2008, 03:51PM)

Professor Ziegenfuss is without a doubt the best Professor and teacher Iíve ever had. He is very friendly and approachable, and is extremely experienced as a teacher. His experience shows in his methods of teaching, which are always interesting. Teaching: His methods of teaching vary from class to class so itís never boring. They keep me on my toes so I donít zone out. Sometimes he speaks for a few minutes then asks us a question in response. In groups we look up the answer in the book or discuss our opinions. There isnít a group grade, though. Itís all in fun and usually teaches us how to be teachers without being blatant. He helps us multitask, by having us present to our groups as a teacher would present, so we learn the material from each other and get a lot of experience watching one anotherís teaching methods. Assigning: Professor Ziegenfuss gives you an easy-to-read syllabus at the beginning of the semester that has everything you need to hand in and when to hand it in, and he never strays from it. Heís fairly lax with the due dates, so donít jump off a cliff if youíre not prepared for class. If you donít have the paper ready you can hand it in to the box at his office door. He does give a significant amount of homework, but itís always straight forward and simple if you read the textbook. He assigns five observations to be done a semester, with a two and a half page paper with each. Besides that we had one other essay, but the topic was fun one to write. Communication: Professor Ziegenfuss hangs around after class to speak with anyone who needs him and heís always in his office during the appropriate hours. Heís very welcoming when you go to his office for help. Grading: Professor Ziegenfuss is a fair grader. He reads every word you hand in and marks writing errors on the paper, but he grades more on content. From the notes he leaves in the margin I think he really is paying attention to what I write about. I think the class is less about work and more about learning. Conclusion: All in all Iíd say I learned a tremendous amount in his class and had a lot of fun on the way. My classmates were always smiling so I have a feeling they enjoyed the class as well. I whole heartedly recommend Professor Ziegenfuss.

Dr. Ziegenfuss is great! He really tries to teach everyone in the class techniques to practice in a classroom. When he assigns homework or observations, he does not care when you turn them in as long as you do at some time. He is easy to work with, and very good at emailing you back when you have a question. I would definitely recommend taking him.

Dr. Z was a very informative teacher, but he did tend to read off of his notes quite a bit. To compensate, though, he used a lot of real life examples. This guys has taught EVERYTHING! I encourage you to read the chapters assigned. I didn't; I could have gotten an A if I had. He sometimes had some really neat group activities for us to do, but I got tired of the group discussions after a while - we did them pretty much every class period. Definitely an informative teacher - take his class!

Dr.Z was new to Ship when I took him so was very flexible about how to handle all of the assignments. He is very fair, and knows his stuff. You will learn so much about what it means to be a good teacher both from his creative lessons and from simply observing him. He constantly tried to give us fun activities to do! great guy...
