Professor Clay was good. I kind of enjoyed her class. We learned a lot of things but at the same time we had fun while learning. I like her exams. The only problem is that she give out like 80 words to study but then it only be like 5 of them on the exams. She is also hard on grading when it comes to essay. It seems like the more you write, the more points you get. Overall, a good prof.

Clay is boring as all hell no matter what time of day you have her (I had her at 8am and 2). If you do all the stuff for her class you won't have a problem. But participate in class discussion, she gets mad when you don't.

At first this class can seem overwhelming and hard but it's really not that bad. You have 1 group debate to do which isn't hard and have worksheets to do that aren't bad either (as long as you write something down, you'll get credit for it). She also has blackboard quiz's about once a week that you can use your book for & you only have a midterm & final. For the midterm & final she gives you a list of 40 map identifications (you only need to know 10), 50ish terms (you only need to know 5), and 10 essay questions (but then gives you an option of 2 on the exams). I never read in this class & still did pretty well. Don't sweat it.

Prof Clay is very excited about her subject and she tries extremely hard to get you as excited as she is. From the other comments you will probably read that the worst part of the class were her worksheets and I'd have to agree but that was only a part of her class. If you want to do well in her class make sure you do the readings. You can't expect to get a good grade by just showing up to class and hoping to understand her lectures. You actually need to have read so you can contribute because she refuses to dumb down the level for those who are too lazy to do work. Make sure you actually come to the class also because skipping it won't make history any easier of a subject. And if you do come to class you'll get to see some of Prof Clay's fashions! She wears the most bizarre scarfs that would make Stacy London from "What Not To Wear" on TLC cringe!

Don't listen to all the complainers. Dr. Clay is a little bit scatterbrained, but her class is EASY. The vocab quizzes are a gimme unless youre too lazy to study for 15 minutes to memorize the terms. Only a paper, mid-term and a final besides that. The mid-term and final are the same format: map, terms, 1 essay. You get a lot of terms to study for but you get to choose to do 5 out of 8 or somethin so if you STUDY its a breeze.

Many people do not seem to like Dr. Clay, but I thought she was a very good prof. She knows a lot about history, and lets face it, history is boring and theres no way to really make it all that interesting. I skipped half the classes in WH2 and I skipped about a third in WH1 (had it at 8am). Easy quizzes help bolster the grade (make sure you show up for them, lowest one is dropped), just make sure you study the terms before the quiz date. Tests are easy if you cram the map and the terms the night before, she gives u the essay questions beforehand, and most of them are pretty easy, just work on studying the essays 5-7 days before the tests. The worksheets u get in class help u write out the essays SO DO MOST OF THEM. Only 2 tests, only 2 easy papers in WH1 and one in WH2. Just do the work and its a guaranteed A. Don't bitch about the prof, do the work its really NOT HARD AT ALL if you put in about 1-2 hours a week in studying it

I feel that Dr. Clay has been inappropriately judged on these boards. Class was easy...a few weekly quizzes which required very little studying, two exams(one midterm-one final) and yeah-both involved essays but they were pretty easy essay questions, one small novel and a 4 page paper due near the end, AND she gives you the chance to earn extra credit. Plus she is very approachable and polite...a little eccentric but I felt that added to the class...She cannot help it if the subject matter is boring to some people-you know who you are-you never liked history and probably never will! Give her a chance...if you participate in the discussions in class it goes pretty well and you'll find that you like it more! :D

This semester, I have her class at a better time than last semester (in the morning vs. the afternoon), and we're dealing with more recent history, which interests me more. Clay is enthusiastic, warm, and accomodating, and one of the friendliest and personable profs ever, and I mean that seriously. The only complaint I would have would be the overheads that she has--they're hard to see. Also the lack of visual materials in the classes would be another complaint, because she just talks a lot, and that's difficult for any class for 75 minutes. One major complaint, and this is major, is the amount of material she suggests you study for her tests. It is an incredible amount, and only a very small amount of what you're told to study will actually be on the exam. She is a bit of a rambler once she gets on a certain topic, but I could imagine far worse profs than her.

Dr. Clay, although unorganized at times, is a good teacher. She is enthusiastic about one of the most boring topics ever- her genuine love of history will amaze you. She truely cares about her students - which is a whole lot more than can be said for most of the other profs at SU. She honestly wants to see you do well and will do whatever she can to help you succeed. The people who say they hate her so much were just too lazy to read...besides, all you have to do is skim through the chapters and you're good to go. Boring? Perhaps ...but a nice prof and an easy class...what more could you ask for?

Dr. Clay is a good teacher. She is so nice and friendly. She likes history alot and her enthusiam makes you want to like history too. She always happy and never gets mad. You will learn something in her class, if not about world history, then about today's issues and other trivial things that you do not know. I liked her, she is so darn cute. She also likes to debate and your whole class could be about that. TAKE HER...she is awesome.

The whole class she just didn't seem to have her act together. It's not my place to judge but she probably had other things in her life. Anyway, if you read what she tells you, and you fill up the journal that you are supposed to keep you should do good. The journal is a joke anyway, all I did was copy maps from the book and sometimes definitions.

Clay is a good teacher, but she likes to emphasize technology and environment too much...and she's big on charts to keep your information organized. She emphazizes essays all the time (and we had an essay quiz every week, but they're only worth 3 points, so i never worried about them, or studied for them and i usually got a 2 or 3 on them). I recommend her. She's a really nice lady and I'm sure you could do a lot worse than her.

It would be easier just to read the book, but she takes roll and we have to read whole chapters for a 3 point quiz..what is that BS? She give out the most retarded worksheets, which no one cares about. Class was a complete waste of my time. If you have a choice do not choose her unless you like to punish yourself.

Professor Clay was a very boring professor. When I had her it was an 8 am class and definitely not one to wake you up. The material was boring to say the least but the teaching style of the information made it worse. All she does is talk and not really about what we are even learning. Her class is difficult if you are not good at self teaching because that is basically what you have to do.

The worst professor I have ever had. The class required 3 books, in which she tested out of one and led discussions out of the other 2. It was impossible to keep up with the reading. Classes consisted of her standing in front of the class saying "What did you think of the reading?" I didn't learn anything at all and wasted my time and money. If you are unfortunate enough to get her, don't try too hard because you'll just stress yourself out. Go to her office hours and she'll like you, which is pretty much all you need to get by.

I'm not the type of person to think bad about a teacher but I hated this class!! You read a chapter almost every week and take a quiz which isnt bad... its the fact that the questions are impossible! I would read the chapter twice and still get a 3/10 on them! You have a final and a midterm. Also she gives you terms to study but she gives you 80 and only 5 of them are on the test! You need to know a good amount of every term to write a short answer, 4 sentence response which is crazy when you're studying 80!!! You also do a debate and a paper which are pretty easy! The class isnt hard to pass but it is a crazy amount of work. Be ready to work you ass off for the grade. Me and a few other classmates I talk to would study for 2 days straight and still go into the test not feeling confident!! Another thing is she is HUGE on womens rights!!!! You read a specific book that she wrote on how women basically invented everything. It's annoying and I'm a woman!!!

On the first day of class when Dr. Clay gave out the syllabus, I knew I had made a mistake by going. The syllabus is confusing and hard to read, so you never really know when anything is due. All she did was lecture and show pictures that are already in the book. It was very annoying. There was so much work for a gen. ed. Every week we had to read a chapter from the big book (about 20 pages), then take a ten question online quiz. Then we would have to read a chapter from another book(15 pages) and complete a worksheet. She never goes over the worksheet questions, which will be the essay questions on the midterm and final. Then you have a debate to do with a group, which nobody puts forth any effort. Then we were expected to read two comic books. The whole class was miserable. And she usually kept us over.

First of all, this class is a joke. I took this class with my roommate, thinking that it would be easy, seeing as we both did well in all History classes in the past. The first day of class, she walks in, [] and just starts rambling on about everything. The syllabus was very hard to follow and made absolutely no sense. Don't expect to know when or what is due in this class. Also, Blackboard quizzes suck. She says "I don't expect a lot of preparation for these quizzes, just study the vocab, and you'll be fine." Ha! The quizzes were not even close to the vocab. I had questions that asked about quotes that weren't even in the book, and multiple questions that asked about a person in history, when there was only one sentence about him. It is also very hard to balance reading all of the material in this class, wayyy too much. Don't expect to be able to get a hold of her. She never answered my e-mails, and talked around every question in class, without ever really answering it. Also, it you have a problem with anything on Blackboard, don't expect her to help. It's always "Check with Tech Support first!" Blackboard reduced my grade almost every time, and she doesn't bother to help solve the problem. I was completely lost in this class, and recommend to anyone that actually enjoys or wants to learn history, to not take this class. It will be a huge headache and waste of your time.

Dr. Clay's class was the most dreadful class I have ever taken. She thinks everyone should get 10 out of 10 on every blackboard quiz, but they are difficult and extremely irritating. Midterm and final are the only tests, but she gives like 80 vocab words and puts only 5 on the test, 6 essays and you only write 1 (you don't know which one, so you have to study all 6), and a map with 10 places. I wanted to skip her class everyday, but I never did. Debates were stupid, she didn't help my group even though we asked her to. I would never take her again. Worst class ever.

This class was dreadful. It was boring and confusing and it was so hard to get myself out of bed in the morning to go to it (although I did attend every class). She gives a ridiculous amount of reading...don't even attempt to finish it all. Skim through the chapters to get the gist of it. She got mad when no one participated, which was every class, so if you can answer a question or two she'll appreciate that. You will be completely clueless throughout the entire semester. She doesn't teach really, she just tells you that you should be getting stuff out of the reading and making connections between the three books and how you should fill out the stupid confusing charts because blah blah blah. She had 10 blackboard quizzes but they weren't too bad because you could look for the answers. The exams were made up of 2 essays (70 points), 10 places on the map (10 points), and 5 terms (20 points). She gives you the essays so to get the most points you want to study those the most. We also had a debate in which you had to write a paper too. They aren't too bad either. It's possible to get a good grade in this class but I don't feel like I learned as much as I could and it was more frustration than it was worth. Clay is a nice woman who obviously knows a lot on the subject matter but she wasn't able to convey that knowledge onto the students.

The midterm and the final are really difficult and you have to study forever to get a decent grade. There is a debate you have to do and a paper you have to write on a book she chooses. She smiles and laughs at her own jokes and is a nice woman but her class is AWFUL to sit through. Oh yeah, and don't be late for class. ever.

Prof. Clay is a nice woman, but talks more about how to write an effective essay and CHARTS CHARTS CHARTS. Compare and contrast. Charts charts charts. Did I mention charts? She has tons of worksheets that she gives you, which are extremely confusing and unclear, in which you must make a huge chart with all of these categories, and magically pull out answers from the book. Basically if you write ANYTHING on your worksheet and it looks complete, she will give you a "check plus." Her midterm was impossible. She gives you at least 50 terms in which you must memorize "who/what, where, when, & significance." Out of those 50 she will ask you 5 on the midterm. How unfair!! If you are going to study for all 50, she might as well give you more. It seems like a waste. She laughs at her own jokes, which are never funny and she doesn't seem to notice that she's the only one laughing. You have a weekly blackboard quiz which is only 10 questions. I read over the chapter twice, highlight AND wrote reminders in the margins of my book before I took the quiz, and I STILL could not get above a 70%. She asks dumb questions like where did chickens originate. WHO CARES. She's a little crazy but .. if you like learning on your own (aka reading all the chapters of the text book), then take her. She IS a nice woman, however and is always there to help.

Prof. Clay is a really nice lady who clearly loves history and wants to make you love it too. However, when it comes to teaching it, she barely makes par. I was stuck with her, rather than choosing her, Tu-Th at 8am. Not only did she keep us there until the absolute very last minute (and sometimes after), but half the time all she did was read straight off powerpoints. She races through the powerpoints also, making it hard to take notes during class. She posts EVERYTHING on blackboard, including the quizzes which generally are easy but you usually have to study a bit before each quiz. The debates are not only incredibly tedious, but also incredibly boring, and she'll drag them out for as long as possible, asking the debaters questions that they cannot possibly answer. She grades relatively easily, but the worksheets are a waste of time and paper. You have to buy 3 books, spending almost 200 on a Gen. Ed (which is ludicrous), and she hardly uses two of them. One I just borrowed the night before the quiz (which ended up to be essay questions that came from the reading questions attached to the book) and got a 51/50 (because of a bonus point). But her midterm/final is ridiculous. Because there are no other tests, it's awfully hard to bring your grade back up if you fail one of those. She puts a map worth 10pts which should be easy, but gives you 45 different things to study, from which she only picks 10! Same with the Ch. Questions. She gives you 100s of words to study but only 6 questions. She gives you 6 essay questions to study for, but only picks 2, and you have to pick 1. The essays are worth 70pts! Her class should be avoided if at all possible, regardless of how kind she is.

If someone she does not like gets a solid B+ on all their papers, but ends up with a C for a final grade due to having a differing opinion in a scheduled debate there is something to be said about her crediblitiy.

Clay is VERY scatterbrained. I had a lot of trouble following what she was taking about in class. I had to actually read to even have an idea what was going on. I don't quite understand her grading...her grades on papers and tests and such such seem kind of random to me. Clay is a nice prof...just not a very good one.

Profesor Clay was a little strange and very very boring. She is very scatter brianed and doesn't seem to stay on topic. Her notes are all over the place. You have to read 2 chapters a night and the quiz is only on one question. Her grading is easy though as long as you say lots of stuff about the topic. Try to avoid this teacher but if you have to take her she's really not that bad and you'll make it through her class.

I never understood any class i attended. This lady makes absolutely no sense at all. Don't get me wrong she loved the subject and probably knew what she was talking about, the only problem was no one else did. Her lectures are soo random and made no sense. the readings never coresponded with anything she said... she would give you a handout (which also made no sense, bunch of random words and lines) and you would go over it in class for about 2 weeks and discuss it in groups, then hand it in for a grade. her weekly quizes were pointless because its a lot of studying for 4 points. i never once read for the class, never studied for the midterm or final, made up all the answers to the 2 tests and i did fine. Oh yeah, she also lost my final report for 2 weeks... she's completely disorganized. i would avoid taking her unless you enjoy wasting your time and not learning anything at all.

Not too much preparation for the classes...pick a few pieces of information from the book for the quizzes and you'll do fine on them(there is a quiz once a week though). Classes are boring...she spent 75 minutes once talking about wheels. There is a midterm, final, and one project...if you screw up on one of them, it's really hard to bring your grade back up. She doesn't grade exactly as it says in the syllabus. I've heard from other professors in this department that it is difficult to get an A in her classes. Take her if you want, but I'm sure there are better professors at Ship that you might actually learn from.

It was really very hard to stay awake in this class...and I had it at noon. Quizzes are ridiculous, 20 terms, and she chooses 2, you write a paragraph on 1 of them(only worth 4 points though). Tests are the same with terms, except it's about 120 terms, and she chooses 10. Don't bother taking notes, or reading, just find a good study group who knows the terms and essays and study with them when test time comes around.

Please understand Clay is a nice professor but a little looney. I mean she is off the wall and just starts on a topic without even finishing what she just said. Her tests are simple but they are almost every week (4pts maximum) and her midterm and finals are essays and words and maps. Which wasn't a big deal but they aren't that easy unless you study the 800 words she give you to memorize for these exams. She chooses 8 you choose 5! Got it. You have two papers to do and she grades hard. I am surprised that I even got what I got in her class. Overall not a good teacher because she's never there when you need to get ahold of her and sometimes forgets to grade your work.

Ok, I love history but taking history with Dr. Clay is like taking history with someone who is teaching in a foreign language. She is so nice and has a ton of knowledge but is too scatter brained to teach it. She spends half the class just trying to get organized. There are a ton of things she makes you do but they aren't very hard. She is quite possibly responsible for destroying the rainforests with all the packets she hands out. I recommend talking to her for fun but not taking class with her.

Well Prof. Clay appears to be a nice lady, shes an awful prof. She talks to you like you're in kindergarten, and you have stupid 3 point quizzes every week. Its very hard to tell when she actually is trying to lecture bc she will ramble on and on for a while. And when she does lecture no one can understand what she is saying anyway. It took us 3 weeks into the semester to realize this is how she tried to teach. If you can aviod taking her I would.

This Teacher is VERY BAD!!! She tries to be helpful by REPEATING EVERYTHING OVER AND OVER AGAIN, but it's never the stuff that is important, she once spent 15 mins asking us whether we'd like to get into our groups to discuss a worksheet we had already finished. She seems like a nice person, but she has issues with maintaining control of her class. I must admit she grades everything very easily, If you make it sound like you know what you are talking about, she gives you credit. But unless you enjoy getting bored to death, don't take a class with her.

Dr. Clay is a very nice lady and I think she truly wants to see everyone succeed. She is very good at giving you pointers on how to study for the quizzes and exams and holds study sessions before the mid-term and final. The good things end there, however. She knows what she's talking about, but hasn't the slightest clue how to tell other people. She is really ditzy and doesn't even get her own jokes half the time. Taking notes is impossible in the class b/c her overheads and blackboard stuff is completely unorganized and she stutters when she talks, making it that much more difficult to get what she's saying. She's really into technology, so expect to do a lot of stupid little art projects with the kindergarten book she makes you buy... There's also a Tech. Project due on the last day of class. It's not too difficult, just a 1-3 page paper and a small poster with pictures on it. All you want to do is sleep in that class b/c its so freaking boring. Basically, you need to try to actually read the chapters for the quizzes and be prepared to teach yourself an entire semester's worth of material for the mid-term and final... Avoid if at all possible!!

Dr. Clay was available most of the time. She will not spoon feed you so if that's what you're looking for you have her all wrong. Her intentions are good but they don't always come off that way. She is highly educated and to some degree she expects her students to be too which can cause some confusion. Students are trying to learn from her but she tends to forget we as students don't know as much as she does.

This class requires a TON of reading. She uses 3 different texts. The work due for each class is obnoxious. I hardly read what was assigned and got by with an okay grade. You only have a midterm and final as exams. She does give credit through almost weekly blackboard quizzes which are easy and some participation points. I honestly dreaded her class, it was long and usually she lectured. Sometimes you split into groups to discuss readings..but no one can read the obscene amount of reading she assigns. However, she is always very positive, cheerful and enjoys lecturing on the subject matter.

Prof. Clay was super boring. You can miss class and it doesn't really matter as long as you don't miss the two in-class essays. I never read and the essays were really easy. The one debate isn't so bad. The tests are only hard because you have a million things to memorize, and only five of them are on the test. BUT there is only a final and a midterm. Boring, but easy.

Professor Clay is one of the nicest people in the history department. She really knows the info and is very passionate about Russian history. The thing is that she just does not teach it very well. She stands in the front of the class and talks for the entire class period giving no notes. There is a lot of reading for the class and there are three reenactments and two short papers. Overall, I would only take Clay again if I absolutely had to.

Dr. Clay is a very nice person, and she is very interested and experienced in the subject matter. The class consists of doing worksheets on the reading about once a week. She also gives online quizzes. These are both guaranteed A's as long as you don't mind reading about 20-35 pages for every class. BUT. Her midterm is a pain. She gave us 76 people/places/era/etc. We needed to know the exact years that they were significant, where they were, what/who they were and their significance. If that's not bad enough, there are only 5 of the 76 on the test!. AGH. And... you have to learn like 45 places on a map and only 10 are on the test. Finally, there is a huge essay worth 70 points on the 100 point midterm. She narrows it down to 6 that she gives you to study. She then puts 2 on the test and you chose 1. It's SO much work for a gen ed. It took me 4 hours to study, and I don't ever study. Ewww...

Professor Clay's World History II class is easy at the beginning of the semester and then it gets very hard. All her exams consist of essay, short answer questions, and a map. The map is almost impossible because she gives you a list of like 50 terms to identify and then you have to identify 10 for an exam. If you get all ten right on an exam you will automatically get those 10 points for the rest of the exams. She gives weekly essay quizzes in which she will give you 5 possible choices and 1 of them will be the quiz question. In addition, she gives worksheets that you have to do which is an easy grade. The paper is extremely hard. You have to choose 1 aspect of a book that we read and present a 4pg paper with quotes from the novel. Although she was willing to help if you need questions when it came to final exam time I had 3 exams I had to take in one day and although we were scheduled by the school to take it on one day she changed it at will and then refused to let me take it on a different day. Which meant to me that she was in such a hurry.

I was stuck with Professor Clay, and did not pick her as my teacher of choice. Starting off was not that bad, but as we progressed into week two and three, I became bored. She is a nice person, but does not teach very well. The good news is her class is very easy. She has chapter quizzes at the beginning of every week, and they require only a little bit of study time. You have two papers - a small one and a large one, but both are very easy. All of this information is repeated on the Mid-Term and Final, making them very easy. In conclusion, this class is very easy if you put in a small amount of work. Professor Clay is annoying and boring to listen to, but if you put with her, you'll do fine.

Otherwise, she is a very nice lady and is really educated. She tries to make things fun. She also gives study guides for the exams and if you know everything on it then you will get a guaranteed A. You have 3 pt. quizzes every monday on an entire chapter, but if you read it you will do just fine. Also there is a technology project and a paper. She is really into group work.
