Dr Hartman seemed a little weird to me at first at the beginning of the semester, but he's actually a really good guy and he's very good at teaching this class. He TRULY cares about his students and he really wants you to pass. He will do everything he can to help you understand. He holds study sessions for almost every test, even if he has to have them during a time he'd rather not drive to campus. He will do it anyway so that you can get extra help. If you don't understand something just tell him, and he will try as hard as he can to help you grasp it. Some people thought his class was hard, but he teaches it very well. Oh and he gives a lot of extra credit, which is really easy to do. TAKE HIM!!

Dr. Hartman is a complete scatterbrain. It was pretty ridiculous at times. He gives a ton of extra credit so there is no way that any one could fail. I have a music background which helped in the course. But most of the people in my class never paid any attention to him anyway. He does grade you on your ability to recognize something that you listened to.

This guy is a complete idiot I have this class now and I am failing it because this guy has no clue what he is doing. His tests are never what we go over in class. He also expects you to know things that you have never gone over before and scolds you when you don't know the answers. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!

Dr. Hartman is a nice guy but he shows off way too much. He'll talk about a musical piece and then somehow brag about how he played this piece before for some type of show. He tries to sing the pieces sometimes which is a fail. [] He has this attitude where he always has to be right and things have to work his way. He does give extra credit but your grade consists of 5 test and 3 concerts you must go to. If you fail 2 tests, you're done. He missed office hours cause he wanted to do lunch with a colleague. The class was easy if you really listen and read the music, but as a teacher, he needs a lot of improvement.

Subject: outrageous attendance policy  (Dec 17 2008, 01:49PM)

The class is easy, and Professor Hartman is a nice guy. However, he has a ridiculous attendance policy, where after your first three missed classes he then takes 10 points off of your grade for every additional class missed. I had a B+ in the class and then dropped to a C because of this bs attendance policy. The class is easy and going to class is not necessary to score well on tests, but with the attendance crap you need to be there all the time.

Dr. Hartman taught the subject well and had a lot of free time for his students. He also gave a good amount of extra credit to his students. For myself, the class was a bit confusing since I wasn't a music person and didn't know much about music. A few times he provided study sessions for students, which I found very helpful (especially for the music). Dr. Hartman (near the end of the semester), began to give us study notes and it helped us know what to study for and to prepare us for the exams. Overall he's a great teacher, but sometimes I felt like you had to know about music before going into the class, but if you pay attention, listen to the music, and have good notes you will do fine.

I'm not going to lie... Professor Hartman is a pretty nice guy... in fact, I would go all out and say he is a really nice guy! However, the class is so freaking boring and I fall asleep every morning. He goes way too fast through his power points that you can't keep up with worth a darn. He does send you a billion e-mails a day but its only because he forgets to tell you half the things in class. He e-mails you every power point for his class and he gets pretty passionate in his lectures. There are a lot of readings but I don't know a single person who does read them. He gives you a study guide for each exam and in every exam there is a listening part in which you have to know the composer and something about the song. The quizzes are fairly easy. I only have a D in the class cause I am lazy and choose to block him out a lot of the time. I would never take this class again for the simple fact I am not interested in knowing anything about music and its past. But, if you're into music, why not... he's pretty nice!
