Dr. Hocking really wants everyone in her class to do well. She goes out of her way to make sure that everyone understands the material before moving on. Most days she lectures with a powerpoint that comes right from the book. Reading is helpful, but not a must. I recommend doing at least some of the homework problems even though they are not graded. Hocking likes group work, she offers extra credit, has review sessions before every exam, and allows a cheat sheet. The material is tough, but she is a great professor!

Dr. Hocking is a prof who really cares about having her students pass. She will even tell you that accounting is NOT easy. You HAVE to read, and if you get lost after a Chapter like I did, just try to do as best as you can. Her tests definitely are not easy, but she cut us a break on the final. The group case studies are easy, and you'll just boost your grade from them. Then there's the group project that she is debating for her future classes....it was stressful, but my group did an awesome/overachieving job, so we got a good grade. And the presentation for that project was made to be extra credit, so that was helpful. And she gives you another extra credit opportunity which is due anytime. She does give quizzes but she usually says 'make sure you read for next class, b/c I think there might be a quiz.' But dont get on her bad side and make sure that if you don't understand something, that you ask in class or in office hours. She'll go over it again and explain it better. You will have to work for your grade, I guarantee it but from what I've heard, she actually gives you a shot at a good grade compared to other accounting teachers.

Subject: Sweet Lady, Tough Class  (Jan 23 2011, 04:37AM)

Dr. Hocking has been teaching for a while so she has a lot of experience. She has had some health problems but that doesn't excuse her forgetfulness. She lost my group project. I ended up staying up all night to redo it since my partner couldn't be reached and had the project on her computer. She only e-mailed me about the missing project and I felt a lot of stress. Her tests are really hard, she takes off points for the smallest things. She is very particular about placement and small details. However, she does let you use note sheets on the last two tests. I think she wants everyone to do well and pass the class, but it is a tough class and she moves really quickly through the material.
