I took this professor for an online Environmental Bio class over winter break. At first I was intimidated by the work load, but in the end, I feel like a really learned a lot in the class. The course mainly involved two discussion questions each week and quizzes for each chapter in the book. The quizzes were extremely easy to get 100 on and you were given an unlimited amount of time to do them. The midterm was just like the quizzes only there were 50 questions instead of 15-20 like in the quizzes. As a class, we created a Wiki page on the pros and cons of mining for Marcellus Shale which was easy to get a good grade on. The final exam had to be held on campus, despite this being an "All online" course. But it was pretty easy, a few multiple choice, definitions, and essays. Overall, it was a great class that I feel that I learned a lot from and is very easy to get a good grade in if you put in the time and effort. And Dr. Flagler was extremely efficient in responding to emails and Virtual Office Hours if you had any questions during the course. Overall, if you're debating whether or not to take him for an online course, do yourself a favor and do it!

Overall great guy and really wants you to learn. Class at times gets a little dry with powerpoint after powerpoint but not bad. I went to every class but he never took attendance. No hw and 3 exams. Would definitely take again.

Overall Professor Flagler is a nice guy. Although, he was usually late to his own class, or didn't want to stay to answer questions! He would tell the class to "not study trivial facts" and that would be all that was on exams (resulting in a bad grade). His classes get very dry from power points and his dull voice (you'd never know he was telling a joke). I do not recommend him as a professor unless you want to do a lot of work on your own.

Subject: Not the best...  (Jan 12 2015, 10:25AM)

First things first: he's not very friendly, and he makes the lasting impression that he does not like his job. That said, he can be very reasonable (if you have an A- at the end of the semester, he'll round up to an A), and usually if you have a concern / question, he will do his best to get back to you. You also do not need to purchase a textbook for his class (for Env. Bio. at least). If he doesn't change the way he structured his class, you have 3 exams, 2 projects, 15 chapter quizzes (on D2L), and a participation grade. Both projects are group assignments, one being a presentation and the other Wiki project. He is not a hard grader on either of these but make sure your presentation is spotless, otherwise you'll get a B for the highest possible grade. His class is not very difficult but expect lots of short answers on his exams!!

Subject: Mediocre professor to Ship's Bio Department  (Mar 07 2012, 07:15AM)

Pros: Tests are easy, simple homework assignments are given and if you take 15 minutes to do it you are almost guaranteed a 10/10, and on days when class attendance is poor he passes around a sheet and if you write your name on it you get points. If you are 1-2 points away from the next letter grade he will round up at the end of the semester. Cons: Taught in a windowless room, quizzes had challenging questions, all power point based, his voice has no enthusiasm and is very boring. Overall: Going to class isn't really necessary because everything taught is on power points. It is a very easy class to miss and only show up on the test days.
