She is such and amazing professor. Very creative and unique with her assignments. She likes to keep class interesting with different types of projects and in class activities. There's a lot of assignments but the only way you wont get a good grade is if you don't do any of them. And you get to play video games and watch movies for homework assignments. Pretty rad.

Dr. Shannon is one of the most unique professors at Ship. I found out early that she uses many non-traditional methods and a ton of projects to teach this grammar class. And while the work load may seem ungodly large, she is a very easy and lenient grader. The group projects can also be a huge pain since there's three of them, but as long as you're prepared it should be alright. I wasn't sure about taking grammar the non-traditional way at the start of the course, but I definitely think it was a great and alternative experience for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Mortimore-Smith's class. She is a very laid back professor and does not mind at all if you call her Shannon. I liked how we had to complete a weekly blog for class with input on the readings and progress with our group teach planning. She is very open to any ideas her students have. She engages her students in class and this helps the time really fly by. She has high expectations of her students, but is always willing to help. She believes each student can earn the grade they deserve. If you put in hard work and show you have learned something, it reflects in your grade. She has a very positive attitude and really loves her job. I highly recommend her. I signed up for her Theories and Approaches English Criticism course this semester because I loved her so much.

Subject: One of my favorite classes  (Jan 18 2012, 12:00AM)

Her class was amazing. She doesn't sit there and give you lecture the entire time. She looks more for people to give their opinion. The books that we read were interesting and allowed for some fiery debates. She did a good job of connecting them all in the end. I will say though, don't expect to not read the books and get a good grade. Take the time out of your day to just read them! All of her books were short and had really interesting points in them. The one thing that I didn't like was the group projects. My group seemed to lack enthusiasm and left me to do the entire project by myself. You do have group evaluations. Team members won't see them so don't be afraid to speak up and protect your grade from a slacker. Overall, great class and I definitely recommend you take her!
