I cannot stress enough how much I hate when people BS their way through life. In the art department, you see a lot of students who do just that. Professor Dolbin does not put up with that crap. Not only does this man still like you even when you pull crap with him, he will try to work with you so that you can get your issues in order. Dolbin is a wonderful adviser and outstanding teacher. His classes are easy as long as you show that you are committed to Art and not BS. He loves to joke around and is a very nice man. He may have a "colorful" temperament, but remember that he is an adviser, a teacher, head of the art department, a successful artist, father and husband. The man has a lot on his shoulders so if he is not always in the best mood, cut him some slack. Being a teacher does not negate your humanity. TL;DR: Dolbin is a wonderful man and teacher. Anyone who is serious about expanding their artistic horizon will like him, anyone who is serious about their future career will respect him. He is always willing to help and praise you for a good job. That also means he will raise his voice if you leave a mess or pull bullcrap with him. If you are not an art major, do not take him.

Dolbin is honestly something of a gem to deal with as an Art Major, but it's so weird to say that. But if there is anyone that's really helped me grow as an artist, it's Prof. Dolbin. In 3D Design, he's rather easygoing... so long as you show effort. He doesn't care for those that BS his class or art. NEVER EVER. But if he sees you working outside of class hours or coming to him with and idea or problem LONG BEFORE the due date, he'll realize you are respectable and responsible and you won't have a hard time to deal with him. Well, too much. One thing about him though is you almost NEVER know his temperament. It's hard to be sure what to expect of him at any given point. But if you've done your work, put in the effort, and are passionate about your art you should have little problem.

Prof. Dolbin was a lot of fun in class and he really cares about helping you to become a mature artist. He's very laid back, appreciates creativity and hard work, and is more than willing help you take your artwork to the next level. Prof. Dolbin is genuinely a nice guy and on the side has some great stories to tell as well.

I've had Dolbin for 2 classes this semester, and thus far they have been the most enjoyable classes I have taken at Ship. He gives a lot of free reign, so if you need a ton of structure he may not be for you... The overall products of my projects were definitely gallery worthy :)

Dolbin is one of my favorite professors, I would recomend him to anybody. He appreciates everybodys own creativity and lets you express yourself. This class is fantastic to relax and work on some projects after a horrible day and he always appreciates when you spend a lot of time on a project.

Mr Doblin made the study of art fun. You have to create art on your own outside of class but i never recieved a bad grade on it. The tests are easy as long as you pay attention.

This prof is very into the art world. Although some classes are extremely boring, you can make it through. If you can attend class he even says you will get an A. There is really no outside work ever for the class except for one video project on ANYTHING you want. Take this class you will broaden your horizon for the art word!

Dolbin is a great person, and an even better prof. He teaches and makes sure you are learning his material, not just for the test but for life too, even though he knows not everyone cares. He has three or four tests, all multiple choice, mostly from slide identification of art works. Great prof to take for this class...and other, must take Dolbin, can't stress enough!!!!

Dr. Dolbin is one of the greatest professors here at Ship. I walked into his class figuring on seeing some old dude with tiny glasses who was going to show me how this art was so magnificant becuase of this reason or what not. I was totally wrong, he is in his 40's and he wants you to realize that everything is art not just what can be painted on canvas or paper. He wants everyone to do well. His classes get a little boring, but he tries his best to keep everyone involved. There are 3 tests in his class, all multiple choice. They are so easy. The first one has only a choice of 3 answers, the other 2 tests have 4 answers. You also have to do a video project where you have to show some type of art, no matter what it is. The tape has to be incorporated somehow. He helps you in picking what you should do for your project, that helps alot. He is an awesome prof., I wish I was more artistic so I could another class with him.

...he's a bit difficult to comment on. At first, you'll like him. Trust me, everyone does. And, his classes are easy...ridiculously so at times. Show up and act like you're trying and you're almost guaranteed an A-. But, do expect some level of immaturity and un-professionalism. He will show up late. Sometimes he won't show at all. And he will make up and excuse for it. He WILL complain. A lot. He even complains about complaining. Go figure. And, I'm fairly certain that he's just a wee bit conceited about his own life and work. His moods constantly shift, so you have to guess if you're going to get yelled at for something ridiculous, or if he's going to be calm and supportive... Having said this, he will help you. Maybe immediately, maybe eventually. Maybe he'll lecture you while doing it, maybe he'll praise you. You really can't know, but either way, you'll get it done and your GPA won't suffer.
