Subject: Tough But Good   (Oct 21 2014, 04:50AM)

I'm a senior Comm/Journ major at Ship and I've take Drager for three classes now in my college career. The guy is one tough mother f*****, but he knows how to teach his profession. The classes are not going to be easy, don't expect to walk out with an A without doing any work. The man rarely hands out A's or A+'s to students unless they come to him multiple times to change the stories they write (I got an A on my first story after stopping by his office twice). If you want to learn and are interested in the class, take him. He is literally ALWAYS available and he really gets to know you on an individual basis. He enjoys helping students that struggle and his genuine appreciation for his field is unbelievable. Also he's hilarious to joke around with and to talk about his years in college. The guy is a saint but will use his pitchfork if you don't put the work in. Take him and your writing skills will dramatically improve.

Dr. Drager is an amazing professor. He is available whenever you need him, and his knowledge of the journalism field, particularly print, is extraordinary. He dedicates his time and effort to everything he does concerning his students. He doesn't enjoy watching students fall behind, like some professors, but you do have to put just as much effort in as he does to succeed in the classes. Reading from a textbook and taking endless notes isn't his style, and I know that I was learning concepts easier without them. He talks to his students as equals, not down to them like they're children. If you are lucky enough to get him for a class, don't take it for granted. Through my years at SU, he was my mentor and still is today.

Dr. Drager is by far the best professor I have had at Shippensburg University. He knows his sh*t to put it into simple terms. He knows how he's teaching and he's had the experience in the field. He knows print media but he also knows design as well. Take him any chance you can. He has a dry sense of humor which is absolutely hysterical. He's a professor you can learn a lot from and he will help you work around any problem that you may have. Lets just say you get your moneys worth in his classes.

Dr. Drager teaches you what you actually need to know in the journalism field. You have a bunch of writing assignments, but he tells you exactly what you should do to do well, and he goes over them so that you can learn how to improve. When I went to my first internship, I realized how valuable his classes were. He's very busy, but he is always willing to talk when he can, and he gives great advice. Plus, he likes to joke around and have a good time in class.

He is the only professor who matters. Unlike other professors in the department, Drager actually cares about his students and wants to see the succeed. Drager is the man, end of story.

If you are a comm/journ major, you will probably get this class. Prof. Drager is a cool guy though, he is easygoing and knows his stuff. This class isn't hard, just do the work, put some effort into it and you should be fine. Highly recommended.

Dr. Drager is definitely one of the best professors I've had here at Ship. He has a great sense of humor and is always making jokes. This keeps the class entertaining and enjoyable. He assigns a lot of writing and can be critical, but that is how we become good writers. I learned a lot from Dr. Drager and loved being in his class. He is highly recommended.

Dr. Drager is far and away the best teacher in comm/journ. He is almost always available, and does not generally test. This was my 3rd class with him, and I like him more and more each time. He isn't the easiest teacher, but is definitely very interesting and fun to take. I learned the most in my four years here with him.

He's been my advisor since sophomore year and I have him for 2 classes this semester, at least one next semester, and probably one this coming summer. He's a great guy and very funny, you can tell he really cares about and enjoys his students. I had advising with him last week-about 10 minutes of the half hour we spent together was to make my schedule, the rest was to just shoot the sh*t. Anyway...good guy, you'll learn a lot from him and although he's pretty hard he's still fair and makes the hard work worth it. If I was a woman or a gay man I would make love to him.

"I've got news for you." You will hear this phrase many times in this class. Dr. Drager really cares about his students. If you want to work for a magazine, this is the class to take. As long as you meet your deadlines and listen to his short lectures, this will be the most effective class you have at Shippensburg. He is very helpful with any questions or problems you have. Halfway through the class, it turns into a sort of workshop where you work on creating a magazine of your choice and he becomes more of a consultant. He has a good sense of humor and you won't leave the class without laughing once.

Class:News Writing & Reporting (A)
12 of 37 students found this review helpful.

Dr. Drager really is the cream of the crop in this department. Never before have I enjoyed such a class like this. It's hard stuff, I won't lie to you, but he makes it look so easy. He knows his stuff inside and out and helps you know it too. He's a bit quirky, but that's what makes his class so interesting and fun. He's always willing to help you whenever you need it; just ask! It's funny that he teaches a news writing class because his favorite thing to say is "Ladies and gentlemen, I've got news for you..."! The only complaint I have for him is that he isn't too good with getting back your work in a timely manner. It usually takes him about a month or so to return stories and it makes it difficult to know what you did wrong so you can correct it for next time. Other than that, Drager is an amazing professor and person! TAKE HIM ANY CHANCE YOU GET!!

Dr. Drager is one of the best prof's that I have ever had. He's also my advisor and is always available. He cares about his students and goes the extra mile to help. Sometimes the course material can get a little difficult, but he teaches it in a way that makes it seem easy. He's entertaining and knows his stuff inside and out. He's a very nice guy and a smart professor. I'd recommend him to anyone, whether they liked to write or not!

Drager is somewhat of an odd professor, but that is what makes him great. He has a quirky sense of humor that helps his students feel more at ease with the material covered. A powerhouse prof, Drager masters the unexpected - like yelling "Soo-Eee" at the top of his lungs to emphasize a quote from an article. The material itself can be trying at times, but if you stick with it and learn from your mistakes, you'll do fine. The overall class is wonderful. If you like writing, take this course. If you don't, take it anyway to expand your horizons.
