The economics class is not easy. You will learn something. If you are not a business major, then do not take this class as it is a lot of work and there are easier professors available. However if you are a business student and will be taking another economics course later on, then I would recommend Finucane. There is a lot of work involved in the class. He gives you mad bonus points if you show up and participate though. He has a funny way of stopping and looking at random people after they ask a question or answer one. If you want a good professor then take Finucane. If you want an easy class-then don't.

Dr. Finucane is the reason I became a business major.. I'll say he's hard but if you really pay attention in class you will do great and actually understand the material. He is willing to help you whenever, so if you have questions (he gives you a list of questions to go over before each exam, then puts like 1/5 questions on the exam) he will go over each question with you in his office hours. He gives you 10% extra credit at the end of the semester if you come to class.. he's honestly so much more interesting than any other econ professor could be, and his lectures are actually entertaining. He makes funny faces and gestures & everyone laughs at him but hes great. I'd definitely take him again. If youre gonna be lazy & are just trying to get an easy A I wouldnt take him, but if you want an interesting class where you try your best and earn your grade then hes perfect for it

I took micro the semester before and barely got a C and then took Finucane and got an A! He gives you 75 % of the test (essay questions) the week before so there is NOO reason that you should get below a 75%. I went to his office hours everyday leading up to an exam to have him help me with his essay questions and he really helped. Also, you get 10 percentage points if you show up and actually seem interested and participate. Really nice guy and would recommend him to anyone!

I am absolutely horrible at economics and principles is a hard class since it combines what should be a semester of macro and a semester of micro into one semester. You cover a lot of material but Dr. Finucane is really good at teaching and easy to get along with. You can get help from him but he’s a department chair or something so sometimes you have to set something up but he will fit you in. He also has this wonderful grading scale that basically if you come to every single class, have your work done and participate he will bump your grade up TEN PERCENTAGE POINTS! That means that I should have had a 72 in this class and actually got an 82 because I came to every class, read the book when I was supposed to and attempted the homework. Economics is hard and this class is especially challenging but not coming to class doesn’t make it any easier so just attend class and do your work!

Dr. Finucane saved my life. I took Micro Econ for the third time because I am an idiot at Economics. Once at Penn State, once here with Mathis (NO NO NO!!!!) Dr. Finucane gives out test a week before they are to be taken. Do them as best as you can and as quick as you can, then go see him. He will critique your work and guide you in the right direction but he will not give you the answers. The man is always in his office during posted times and I found his class the best Econ ever. I had an F and went to a B-. Take him!!

Dr. Finucane is a pretty cool prof. He seems like he is senile but hes the econ dept. head so he is pretty smart. He gives the test questions a week before the test so write them out, take them to him to check them and memorize them and go to all classes and participate and get 10% extra on your final grade. He is pretty cool and funny at times too.

Tests based on lecture, don't get too bogged down in the baffling textbook. Take very good notes in class and don't skip class. Tests are all essay (choice of 3 out of 4 questions). Cares for his students, takes ample time to answer questions, and is generally a fair grader, but not an easy one. The class material isn't intuitive, if you didn't attend class and study your notes well, you will fail. Seriously. The strange thing is his in-class habit of pausing and staring at people after he makes a point. Uses both black boards, sit in back or near windows if being stared at makes you uncomfortable. Does call on people in class randomly, mostly those who volunteer early in the semester.

The class is really fast paced. He writes examples on the board and goes over them really fast, but always welcomes questions. He really knows what he is talking about too. The tests come striaght from the lectures and there is no need to buy the book. His tests are pick 3 of the 4 essays and write about them. You have to really understand the material to do well. Go to class and participate and you get like 10 extra credit points. Not the most interesting material, and the subject in general is pretty difficult.

Dr. Finucane presents the material very clearly and logically. He always comes to class looking lively and excited to teach. He looks like he really enjoys his job. This class is good for those of you who come to class because you receive a lot of points for just coming to class. The tests are long but he does teach the subject very well. You will learn a lot!

His class may be hard, but that's because its the topic itself that is hard. This man knows economics very well and I'm amazed on how much he knows. He's a very friendly person and good guy. Although he often stares you down, you eventually get over it and just listen to him. He gives plenty of graphs and notes that help anyone to understand the topic. I think he makes economics interesting and understandable. I highly recommend him if you want to really learn.

I'm from the Class of 1988. The comments by recent undergrads seem to be what I'd expect. I took these courses as gen-eds. The fact that most of the testing was in essay format forced me to learn the stuff. As a student, you often look at gen-ed courses as necessary evils, which is wrong for any course--hey! you're paying for them! Learn as much as possible! (I know, I'm looking at college from a different perspective now.) I enjoyed the classes taught by Brendan. They were tough. But I actually learned something about a topic that after school actually means something to you. That is, unless you don't give a crap about jobs, government, politics, and how all of this affects your life. Okay, enough lecturing from an old guy. Trust me though, if you care about an education, this is a good professor for econ. []

Finucane is a good prof, and as it was said before this guy is fair as it gets. He gives you the essays before hand and the questions he uses are EXACTLY what was on the review sheet that he gives you a WEEK prior. Now some people are here b*tched about how he was hard and it sucked and blah blah blah. But all you had to do was study and show up for class, and if that's not enough he'll increase your grade by a letter if you show up for every class. I studied for 30 minutes for the first test and got a 98. So if you put forth atleast a half assed effort you'll get a B.

Dr. Finucane is all about fairness. His class is so fair, it should be part of the definition of the word. I found the subject matter difficult, but it is not one of my strong points and certainly not my major because of that reason. I enjoyed what I learned and it served its purpose of making me a more well-rounded, educated individual. If you love economics you'll love Dr. Finucane.

I don't understand how people can fail this class. If you understand the essay questions he gives you before the test, you're set. If not, he's always available to help you. There are no surprises on the tests: the essay questions are always taken from the review sheet, and the multiple choice questions pertain to the same stuff in the essay section. He calls on people randomly a lot, which can be unsettling, but it's all in good fun.

This guy is really nice. If you attend class you get extra credit. His tests are essays, with a little multiple choice. He gives you about 10 essays before the test for review. Then he picks about 4 to be on the test. Hes pretty fair.

Okay listen, he is such a nice old man and is very helpful in anyway! but DO NOT take him! I am a great student and tried my hardest in this class! He only had 3 exams... that is your overall grade but he has multiple choice questions that are completely random! And he gives you 8 essay questions beforehand then he picks 2 to put on the exam. I went to his office hours, Library tutoring and had a student in the class also tutor me! He was so picky on his essays it was impossible! He expects you to be an economist! On every exam there would be double digit students who received below a 40%. He does not have any power points ONLY what he writes on the chalkboard and it was a mess to read! Even though my notes were perfect because I was a note taker!! He is such a nice man but honestly don't take him unless you're a genius in Economics!

His classes weren't bad because his lectures were usually pretty interesting but he taught nothing that was on the test..the notes we took and the stuff he talked about in class were nothing like what was on the test..his tests were ridiculous. Basically everyone in my class failed them except for a few. I would strongly recommend NOT to take him as a teacher..and don't be fooled by his grading system, he adds 10% to the end of your grade if you come to every class and participate..it doesn't help. Trust me over half of the class failed even with the 10% and now so many people are retaking it.

I had Dr. Finucane for macro economics and i thought it was going to be an easy gen-ed that would ultimately boost my GPA. But, little did i know, this class is rediculously hard for its level. He gives three exams that have about 10 mpc and three essays. The essays are so hard, they require u to remember every single detail and they each are about a 1 page to a 1 1/2 pages! He has the dumbest sense of humor and you better attend every class because he'll take points off for every class you miss.

Dr. Finucane is a decent guy. He does actually teach the class (as opposed to Dr. Bastin) but he goes very very quickly and his hand writing is terrible, so it is extremely difficult to follow. Also, he must have changed his tests in the past few years because they are NOT essay. They are actual problems with graphs and formulas and calculations. Not essay. He does not curve at all, but you get extra credit if you go to every class. Overall, I would say if you can keep up with a fast paced professor and if you have any comprehension of economics at all, you should be fine with him. But if you are a slow learner, write slower, or didn't do well in principles, I wouldn't take him.

He obviously knows what he is talking about and he does his best with examples to transfer that knowledge but he does not have a clear lecture. The notes he gives are all over the place. He has many examples on one graph and it is hard to see which is which. His tests are incredibly hard but he does give partial credit for answers so put everything you know that is germane to the question and you will get most of the credit. The multiple choice is what hurt me on many of my tests. He usually assigns a two or three problems at the end of chapters and goes around the room to answer them. The one thing that I do like is his practical examples of everyday situations. It makes the class somewhat understandable.

Okay, microeconomics is a tough class and he did not make it any easier to understand. He jumped around during lectures from one thing to another and you can never understand what his notes say. He stares you down too, it is really freaky. His tests blow too, 10 impossible multiple choice and 3 essays. Not too good or fun, it kind of makes you want to shoot yourself after writing 6 pages of notes that make noooo sense when you get out of class...good luck is all I can say.
